Research Officer in Animal Sentience (Animal Welfare Science and/or Animal Ethics)

Salary from £36,647pa to £44,140 pa inclusive with potential to progress to £47,456 pa inclusive of London allowance

This is a fixed-term appointment for 3 years

A Post-Doctoral Research Officer in Animal Sentience is being recruited for Dr Jonathan Birch’s Foundations of Animal Sentience (ASENT) project, funded by the European Research Council. This position is for a post-doctoral researcher with expertise in animal welfare science and/or animal ethics. The position is tenable for three years. The successful candidate will conduct innovative and significant research as part of the ASENT team, potentially including lab work on bee cognition with scientific collaborators at Queen Mary, University of London and Royal Holloway, University of London.

The successful applicant will;

  • have successfully completed or be close to completing a PhD in a relevant discipline, such as Psychology, Cognitive Science, Neuroscience, Animal Welfare Science or Philosophy by the post start date.
  • have a strong research interest in animal consciousness/sentience.
  • have the ability to make significant, innovative contributions in this area.
  • be willing to work harmoniously and closely with their fellow team-members on the ASENT project.

Ideally, the successful applicant will begin in September 2020.
