Student Colloquium of the research group in environmental and animal ethics GRÉEA

The research group in environmental and animal ethics GRÉEA is pleased to announce the holding of a conference for students who wish to share their work on the GRÉEA’s research axes:

  1. The fundamental normative issues of animal ethics and/or environmental ethics;
  2. The practical issues surrounding our relationship with animals and nature;
  3. The scientific knowledge and epistemological considerations that allow us to think about our relationships with the non-human.

Objective: The objective of the conference is to encourage the sharing of ideas and discussion on the themes mentioned above. It is an opportunity and presentation experience for students interested in an environment conducive to sharing.

Presentation Details: Each presentation will last 30 minutes, with approximately 20 minutes allotted for the presentation of the work and 10 minutes for discussion. A schedule will be available in the coming weeks, following the selection of proposals.

Guidelines: Proposals should be anonymized and include a titlean abstract of no more than 300 words (excluding bibliography) and an indicative bibliography (maximum 10 references). Applications can be submitted in English or French.

Location: The conference will take place on April 19 and 20, 2024 in Tiohtià:ke/Montreal in person. Financial compensation will be offered to cover travel to Montreal (by land) and living expenses for participants from other regions.   

Application Submission Information: Proposals must contain, in separate files, an abstract and a page containing the following information: first and last name, pronouns, email, current status (master’s, master’s, PhD, postdoctoral or other), academic affiliation, name of program and date of enrolment OR date of graduation, title of paper, and membership in a group(s) marginalized (optional). They must be sent no later than March 22, 2024 to Rebecca Soland.


Applications from women, Indigenous and racialized persons, members of visible minorities and/or genders, and/or persons with disabilities are strongly encouraged.

The results of the selection will be available at candidates during the first week of April.

The GRÉEA recognizes that the majority of its activities take place on the unceded Indigenous territories of Tiohtià:ke/Montreal.
